Solution for Dust Contamination Around the Converter Slag Pit at the Steelmaking Plant

Author:

Oxygen spray

When Converter at the steel plant Slag enclosure Region The operations involve the following scenarios: using a forklift to clear slag channels and unload ash, loading materials onto trucks, unloading trucks, and routine cleaning and sweeping; all of these activities generate… Large amounts of dust This resulted in pervasive dust throughout the steel slag treatment workshop, severely impairing visibility and posing a significant risk to workers’ health. The dust contains… micro Slag particles, slag powder, dust, and other particulates have particle size ranges between 1um--10 There are relatively many 0um particles, and a single dust-suppression facility cannot effectively achieve the desired dust-control performance.

Resolve Plan

1.  To Refining Steel factory Install a comprehensive misting system in the area surrounding the converter slag. Dust suppression System, in A high‑energy nozzle is installed on a spray pipe positioned above the U‑shaped retaining wall, with horizontal misting used to cool the area and suppress and settle large particulate matter; in… Arranged above the high‑energy nozzle 4 items Ultrasound Dry fog Dust suppression box Horizontal spray Fog further suppresses and causes fine particulate matter to settle.

2.  Extended to the next via pipeline. On the U-shaped retaining wall, a spray pipe equipped with high-energy nozzles is installed above another U-shaped retaining wall; horizontal misting cools the area and suppresses and settles large particulate matter; in… Arranged above the high‑energy nozzle 4 items Ultrasound Dry fog Dust suppression box Horizontal spray Fog further suppresses and causes fine particulate matter to settle.

3.  In Two sets of imported high-temperature‑resistant LiDAR scanning units are installed in the upper‑middle areas between the two U‑shaped retaining walls. By employing a grid‑based configuration, the scanning range and coverage area are precisely controlled, thereby preventing interference with the mist‑suppression system—caused by the operation of furnaces on the workshop’s transverse and lateral tracks—and avoiding unintended spray activations. When the system is operating, if the LiDAR detects vehicles within the designated zone, it sends a trigger signal to the Siemens PLC in the control cabinet, which then sequentially activates the mist‑spraying system according to the programmed logic. The spray duration for each of the two misting modes can be individually set and adjusted based on the on‑site dust conditions.

The above are merely the standard methods for controlling dust generated by slag yards at most steel plants. If you have more effective approaches, please feel free to call us to discuss and explore together.
