Rapid Cooling and Disinfection Measures for Poultry Farms in Hot Weather Conditions
In recent years, scorching summer heat has been making frequent appearances, with midday temperatures soaring as high as 40 Above a certain temperature, many poultry farmers are already driven to despair by the sweltering heat. Even with water curtains and fans running at full blast, they can’t keep up with the relentless summer temperatures. Just a few days ago, I saw on social media that some farmers have installed air conditioners in their chicken houses to prevent heat stress. At first, I found it hard to believe, but now I think their approach is entirely justified. Chickens lack sweat glands, and prolonged exposure to high temperatures can easily lead to mortality. However, equipping a chicken house with air conditioning requires a substantial capital investment, which many farmers simply can’t afford. Today, we’ll share some practical strategies for helping your flock cope with the summer heat.
I. Shading and Cooling
Plant two rows of poplar trees around the chicken coop; once the stand matures, its dense foliage will shade the coop from direct sunlight, thereby reducing the internal temperature. 3 °C~ 8 ℃. You can also plant climbing vines such as ivy or loofah around the chicken coop, allowing these plants to cover the roof; this typically helps lower the temperature inside the coop. 2 °C~ 3 °C.
II. Ventilation and Cooling Methods
Close the chicken house’s doors and windows before temperatures rise in the morning, and open all openings after temperatures drop in the evening to promote air exchange between the inside and outside, thereby improving air quality. At the same time, install ceiling fans and use electric fans to enhance air circulation and reduce heat.
Three , spray cooling for temperature reduction
Install misting equipment in the chicken house; by atomizing water, it absorbs heat from the air in a short time and evaporates instantly, thereby achieving a cooling effect. The diameter of the mist particles is… 15~50 At the micron scale, it prevents water from pooling in the chicken house and keeps the birds’ bodies dry. The fine mist remains suspended in the air, increasing negative ions and thereby improving air quality, which in turn promotes the growth of the flock. With this misting cooling system installed, temperatures can be effectively reduced. 3~8 °C. Disinfection coverage area 80 Square meters.

4. Installation of Water Curtain Cooling System
Install a water curtain at the air inlet to cool incoming hot air before it enters the poultry house; the lower edge of the water curtain should not be lower than the height of the chicken bedding, and its width should be slightly narrower than the width of the house. At the opposite end of the house, install an exhaust fan; when using the water curtain, turn it on before temperatures rise and shut it off after temperatures drop in the afternoon. This helps reduce the house temperature. 3 °C~ 6 °C.
